Security and Privacy for all

We have a long history of developing Internet security technology that benefits our own users and the online world as a whole. So when we create technology to keep our services safer, we find opportunities to share it for everyone’s benefit.

Advanced Industry Standards

Transparency Report

Since 2010 we have published the Transparency Report, which features statistics on things like phishing and malware detection and security initiatives like Safe Browsing. We do this not only to share our progress with our users, but also to encourage others to adopt stronger security standards in the interest of a safer Internet for all.

Strong Authentication Standards

We’ve always been at the forefront of co-creating or adopting the strongest possible sign-in and authentication standards on the web. We collaborate across the industry and share technology by developing centralized web standards. One such partnership with the nonprofit organization FIDO Alliance worked to set and deploy new industry standards for companies to use, ensuring secure account access for their employees.

Sharing our cutting-edge technologies

Cross-Account Protection

Cross-Account Protection

Cross-Account Protection extends the security protections that we have in Google Account to the apps and sites that users sign in to with Google Sign-In. When apps and sites have implemented Cross-Account Protection, we’re able to send information about security events – an account hijacking, for instance – to them so they can protect users, too.

Safe Browsing

We built our Safe Browsing technology to protect web users from malware and phishing attempts by alerting users when they try to visit dangerous websites. Safe Browsing protects more than just Chrome users – to make the Internet safer for everyone, we made this technology free for other companies to use in their browsers.

Open-Source Security

Making security tools available to developers so they can help prevent security risks. We share our security technology whenever we believe it can provide value for others. For example, we make our Google Cloud Web Security Scanner freely available to developers so they can scan and analyze their web applications for security vulnerabilities.

Project Shield

Project Shield is a service that uses our technology to help protect news, human rights, and election sites from distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. No matter the size of the website or the size of the attack, Project Shield is always free.

Google Safety Impact Challenge

We know that the issues people face online are not isolated challenges, which is why we launched our Google Impact Challenge on Safety, a ten million euro grant fund from Google.org. The grant will support the ecosystem of safety organizations-- nonprofits, universities, academic research institutions, and others already working across Europe-- to tackle a range of safety issues, from helping young people stay safe online to addressing hate and extremism in their communities

Building a more private web for everyone

We are committed to creating collaborative spaces like Privacy Sandbox and working with the web community to develop a set of open standards that protect user privacy while still supporting free, accessible content across the web. By sharing our resources and platforms, we hope to encourage progress toward a more private web.
